The Golden Book of Manners

Another gem from the Learning to Share blog. This time it's scans from the legendary illustrator Richard Scarry's 1962 "Golden Book of Manners". Fabulous stuff.

American Legion Posters

The American Legion website has photographed and displayed a huge collection of World War I and II posters from their archives along with a handful of more recent ones. A very impressive collection that, as pointed out on Boing Boing, are at times eerily relevant to today.

Cake Wrecks

I have genuine tears of laughter in my eyes after visiting the Cake Wrecks blog.

For me, two gems stand out from just the last week. One is the delightful Curious George cupcake cake and the other is Vicki's wedding cake. I do think it's worth taking a moment to visit those links and compare the intended cake with the final product.

The cake that takes the biscuit is this one. Oh. My. God. Pics of the brief provided to the professional baker v. actual draw-dropping wedding cake below...

Worst Film Ever?

In my view, a compelling case has been put forward to award Batman and Robin the title of Worst Film Ever... To think I actually paid good money to see this tripe in the cinema as well.

Norwich Elephants Do a Bunk

The elephants in Norwich's Go Elephants street art exhibition have all gone and this short film by Dragons Tail Films could explain how it happened...

"You're a Bad Mommy"

Crumbs. I'm a bit lost for words with this one! From the fascinating blog Learning to Share comes this incredible 1941 advert for Castoria. Click it to make it BIGGER.

The Travelling Gnome

A gnome spent 7 months travelling around the world to countries such as South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Laos.

The gnome disappeared from his home in Gloucester, England and was photographed on his travels around the globe. His owners had thought that he had been stolen by students from a local college and were surprised when he turned up on their doorstep along with a photo album chronicling his travels. Article here. Springfield Punx

On Springfield Punx, Dean Fraser recreates cartoon characters and celebrities in the style of The Simpsons characters.

I really like the Watchmen pictures, especially the one below of Rorschach, and there's a nice Batman set too. Just go and browse for yourself!

Ten most expensive hotel suites

Prices range from $14,658 to $29,254.96 a night and include amenities such as a private chef, seven bathrooms, a 22-karat gold chandelier and a wine cabinet containing 150 bottles of wine, here are the 10 most expensive hotel suites...

The sad thing is that I don't even think many of them are very nice although I might make an exception for the Villa Cupola pictured above. If I could bring myself to spend that much money on a hotel room that is...

Boy on a Stick and Slither

Boy on a Stick and Slither by Stephen L. Cloud is really charming comic strip that's well worth a little browse. (via)

Making Canned Halloween Monstrosities

"Round out your mad-science lab or witch's larder with just a few dollars and a little imagination". I think these jars look great! Link to instructions here.

From the same site also comes a DIY guide to the perfect Halloween Supper. Very appetising.

Bling from Blik

Blik's site is packed full of amazing decal designs including licenced wall graphics from Nintendo that I find a little tempting but shall resist as I think I am a bit old for a Donkey Kong or Mario themed bedroom. They also do custom prose prints that I'd love to have - if only I was decisive enough to decide what mine would say!

Some, like the one below, are based on threadless tees voted for by customers and look awesome. Now that's tempting...

Binocular Football

Having tried walking around a square using binoculars the wrong way round to see, I empathise with these poor footballers. Not enough not to laugh at them though!

Keep Calm and Carry On

A great range of "keep calm and carry on" items for sale here. I find myself "needing" a mug like the one below although I am also tempted by the tote...
